You know, back in 2007, I was so desperate to lose weight. Although my loved ones and my family kept telling me I was beautiful the way I was, I didn’t feel confident and happy in my own skin. There were times when I was so frustrated about my body, I would go into binge eating — I wanted to lose those stubborn extra pounds so badly. I was done with the baggage!
I tried lots of exercise programs and changes to my eating habits but there wasn’t a lot of change and very little weight loss. Then, one evening I was introduced to the world of green juicing through an infomercial with Jack Lalanne. Little did I know that juicing would be my recipe to weight-loss and there would be no stopping me and my juicer for years and years to come!
Shortly thereafter, I went on a few juice fasts, started blogging and writing about juicing, created a community of juice-loving people in the Green Juicing Intensive Clinic, wrote The Healthy Juicer’s Bible and The Comprehensive Green Juice Guide and have become a champion of green juicing as part of a daily lifestyle.
The number one reason is not weight loss. It’s because juicing makes you so good. The weight loss is just a bonus! Embracing green juicing has brought many good things my way. I’ve literally drank my way to a sexy, healthy body. I’ve stopped feeling so stressed all the time. And I’ve kept my ideal weight ever since.
A major reason for this is when you start green juicing regularly, you stop craving junk foods. You get into the natural habit of declining processed sugar and opting for fruits or raw vegetables. You begin to crave your glass of juice instead of your cup of joe!
Some people overdo juice fasts to lose weight. Be careful with fasts especially if you’re new to green juicing. Fresh green juices are meant to supplement a balanced diet, not replace it. So before going on a long-term fast take lot of care and a check with your doctor.
Anything from a 3-day to a 14-day juice fast should be okay as long as you are very aware of your body and how you feel and take it easy during that time and be willing to modify your plans if your body can’t go through the whole fast.
Fasting is one way for weight loss but not a must. If you simple integrate green juicing into your regular diet, you shed the extra pounds naturally because juicing enhances your digestion and elimination system and the accumulated waste leaves your body and makes you more supple and efficient in digesting regular food.
Although you don’t eat anything at the time you’re fasting, you must understand that green juices are supplementary to your diet. Your body still needs solids to stay healthy and fit.
Also remember that most fruits contain sugar in natural fructose form, so don’t add too many fruits to your juices or opt for lower sugar fruit such as green apples and berries.
Balance out your sweet fruits, if you must have them in your green juices, by adding a handful of greens such as kale, spinach, celery, or cucumber which are all fabulous for you and are extremely low in sugar. Oh and fruits like lemons and lime that have nearly zero sugar content are also great to add to your vegetable juices.
With that, here are 8 easy and delicious fruit and vegetable juice recipes for happy, effective weight-loss. These recipes make anywhere from 2-3 glasses of juice. Drink one glass and store the rest in an air-tight glass (not plastic!) container for up to 36-48 hours. The quicker you drink it the better.

- 2 green apples
- 2 oranges, peeled
- 2-3 stalks of celery
- 1 handful parsley
- 1 cucumber
- 1 lemon, unpeeled
- 1 small chunk of ginger
