I love doing juice fasts a few times a year but why should you go on a juice fast? By now, you know the benefits of juicing but why the fast? What are the most obvious and amazing benefits of giving up food and going on a juice-only regimen for so many days?
My first ever 5-day juice fast was in January 2009. I recruited a juice fast buddy from the juicing clinic where I show you how to build juicing as a habit into your life. My partner and I decided to commit to this fast even with the freezing cold weather upon us. We pushed through and made it to the 5 days, although day one was a looong day. I lost 2 pounds, felt strong and healthy as well as calmer and more grounded than I had in a long time. By the end of the fast, my skin was glowing and my heart was full of gratitude.
And those are just scratching-the-surface benefits of juice fasting. In other words, wowza!

Let’s talk about why to go on a fast and withhold yourself from eating, a joy and pleasure for all of us. That’s the question that raises the most eyebrows from family and friends. If you are thinking about it, you are smart, you’ve done your juicing homework, you guard your health and you love healing your body the natural way so a juice fast is a no brainer for you. But just for good measure, here are the top 8 benefits of juice fasting:
1. Juice fast gives your digestive system a much needed rest.
There is no food in a juice fast and there is no fiber in the juice. Therefore, you are only drinking a liquid diet during the fast and no need for your digestive system to work. Rest time, baby!
2. Juice fast helps you lose stubborn weight easily and quickly.
Stubborn weight is the weight that doesn’t come off with all the diets and gym workouts under the sun! I’ve had it and maybe you have too. A nice juice fast melts away this stubborn weight.

This is one of my favorite benefits. Your skin starts to glow and your eyes start to sparkle after a short juice fast. The body is rejuvenating from the inside out and the signs of a healthy inside start to appear on your outside.

This is the counterintuitive benefit of fasting: you get a lot more energy than when you are eating a regular diet. The reason is your digestive system is resting (see #1 above) and so you are the beneficiary of all that energy that needed to work toward digesting your food. Imagine how you would use this amazing high on energy well.
8. Juice fast is a break from eating, cooking and chewing.
This is daunting for some of us but once you get into the fast, you are happy to be taking a break from constantly preparing food, worrying about what to eat next, chewing food, cleaning it up, and repeating the process. You take a complete break. It’s a great shift in schedule and body rhythm.
