Starting a new habit isn’t easy, I completely understand, especially if you’ve been brought up with an unhealthy diet in your family. It’s not realistic to expect to overcome years of conditioning in just a few weeks and that’s why you may have failed in the past to make the juicing habit a regular part of your daily routine. It happens to all of us, including me. I’ve struggled with this a lot. The best thing to do is to try again and again never give up until you succeed.
In this post, I’m going to be showing you 5 powerful ways that you can apply today to make juicing a permanent habit in your everyday life. This will transform your health, because the real amazing benefits only come when you do things consistently, every single day.
Make Juicing Easy
Juicing doesn’t have to be hard. It can be a pain cleaning your juicer every time you want to make some healthy juice, but there are some simple tricks I’ve learned to make the process much easier:
First, use a small, biodegradable bag and stick it into your pulp collector (and here are 11 ways to use that pulp). This will save you from having to clean it afterwards. Instead of using the juice collector, have your juicer pour straight into your drinking glass. That saves another container from being cleaned.
Once you’re done with making the juice, I find that cleaning the juicer before drinking the juice is much more fun – first, you get it out of the way, and then you have a delicious reward waiting for you. I usually rinse my juicer with water and only wash it with warm soapy water 1-2 times per week. You can also stick it into your dishwasher if it’s built for it.
Make Juicing Fun
Juice a variety of produce to keep it interesting. Experiment with new recipes and exotic fruits. You can also add different spices after such as: sea salt, cayenne pepper, cinnamon, cacao powder and other superfood powders.
Listen to your favourite music while you juice. This will boost your mood and will associate pleasure with the habit of juicing. Share your freshly made juice with your friends and family – this is also a powerful way to associate pleasure with juicing.
Produce Preparation
Have all your fruits and vegetables prepared (washed, cut, batched) beforehand in your fridge in small plastic bags. Then, all you need to do in the mornings is grab the bag and juice the produce. This saves a lot of headache. You’ll only have to prep 3 times a week if you do it this way.
Overcome Resistance
In the beginning you might face a lot of unconscious resistance to drinking unappetizing concoctions, but the key is the push through your feelings and make it fun. There are many great techniques to help you to overcome emotional blocks. One of the best technique I’ve used is EFT or Emotional Freedom Technique, also known as “Tapping”.
If you’ve never heard of it before, it can be a bit odd at first, so it’s best to do it when nobody’s at home. To learn EFT, I highly recommend The Tapping Solution and apply the techniques you learn, to overcome the uncomfortable resistance you feel towards juicing.
Keep Going!
Once you have momentum, don’t stop! Even if you think you have it down, keep going. A habit needs time to be reinforced and strengthened. Don’t listen to your mind if it starts reasoning with you “I’ve been good this week, I’ll do it tomorrow…” because that will interrupt your positive pattern. Remember, you’re creating a lifestyle, not a temporary diet.
If you need help pushing through a tougher period, ask a good friend or family member to keep you accountable. Or even better, hire an accountability partner who will keep you on track no matter what. I’ve used Stickk.com as a very effective tool to keep me focused on my habits. I also found joining groups or liking Facebook fan pages for clean green eating motivated me every day to keep up the habit.
After several months, you won’t even feel like juicing is a habit anymore, because it will come naturally to you and has become part of your daily lifestyle. People around you will be marveling at what your secret to your vibrant health is. You’ll say “juicing”, but deep inside you’ll know it was the *habit* of juicing that made all the difference.
